Where should tags be placed?

Stickers go on outside driver door. The tag can not be on any magnets, mirrors, or windows. Placement needs to be in a visible area, preferably under the window of the driver door. 
Hanging tag goes on rear view mirror while on location. Name on the hanging tag must match the driver of that vehicle. 

EACH TAG IS REGISTERED TO THE VEHICLE’S VIN NUMBER & ARE NOT TRANSFERABLE WITHOUT PROPER DOCUMENTATION.

Who needs to register with the MHA DOT?

Any company related to oil traffic doing business within the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation Boundaries.

Exemptions:

  • The government of the Tribes or any subdivision or enterprise of the government of the Tribes, to the extent of the Tribes’ ownership
  • Farming and livestock activities occurring on Reservation lands
  • Charity, church, or school groups
  • Persons engaged in primarily in the sale of food stuffs
  • First responders and/or emergency response crews
What about Native-owned companies?

Each Native-owned company must go through TERO Commission in order to get their license. We do not register any Native-owned company without the commission’s approval. Each Native-owned company pays a yearly fee depending on its status with TERO. See the Registration Specialist for more info.

How do I receive my MHA DOT Decals/Sticker?

The application asks if you would like the tags mailed or picked up. If the tags are mailed they are mailed via USPS & may take up to 7 business days to arrive. If you pick the tags up please allow one business day to process.

What is a trucking brokerage and do they need to be registered?

Trucking Brokerage is defined as a company that does not own vehicles but dispatches owner-operators to locations. Yes they need to be registered with the TERO office, not MHA DOT.

How long will it take to get my MHA DOT Decals?

The tags can take up to 10 business days. PLEASE PLAN AHEAD!

Do trailers need decals?

No.

How do I get a Username and Password?

You can request your username by emailing or contacting the registration specialist or anyone at the MHA DOT office. We do not keep password information but we will be able to help you get a new password.

I've entered all my information for the application and there is an error that says "contact DOT regarding the usage of this VIN."

Select the vehicle type as “OTHER.” This is an system glitch that we are currently trying to figure out.

I need to add more vehicles. Do I do it online?

NO, DO NOT DO ANOTHER ONLINE APPLICATION!

Email current vehicle registrations to the registration specialist or call the office for someone to add for you.

I don't have a "RENEW" button when I log in. What do I do?

Select the New Application button. It’s the same process as renewing.

I've added my files online but it still won't let me submit for processing. What should I do?

Delete the files and select the FILE TYPE as VEHICLE REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE or TERO ID, not OTHER.

I am unable to submit a payment online, what do I do?

Call the office and any of our employees will be more than happy to get a credit card over the phone or change your online credit card in the system.

How do I get my permit?

Processed permits and receipts are directly emailed to the specified email on the application. You can print a copy of the permit from your online application by selecting the print option next to the processed application.
